Position Title: Payroll Supervisor

Qualifications:

Education

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience is required, and a Certified Payroll Professional is preferred.

Experience

The ideal will candidate will have a minimum of five years of payroll experience, and two years supervisory experience. Accounting/Finance and non-resident alien taxation experience preferred. Must understand IRS guidelines and identify resources and funding changes to competently assist foreign nationals with tax issues. Must have or obtain knowledge within 12 months of hire date.

A strong functional knowledge of payroll administration, as well as current payroll, labor, tax regulations and practices, accounting cycle and principles. Excellent written and verbal communication as well as organizational, analytical, time-management and multi-tasking skills; proficiency with MS Office; strong attention to detail; positive, professional work ethic and image with excellent customer service skills when dealing with employees at all levels of the Institute.

We currently have an immediate opportunity in our Finance department for a Payroll Supervisor. This position is responsible for managing the day-to-day payroll operations. Manages, coordinates activities of 2 staff engaged in recording hours of work, processing time records, compiling payroll statistics, maintaining payroll control records, and calculating payroll as well as audit of payroll processes and benefit payments. Prepares payroll tax returns and assists with maintenance and upgrade testing of the payroll system. Must be able to work overtime and or a flexible schedule based on workload and deadlines. Peak times include payroll deadlines, month-end and year-end close, and audits.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Ensures payrolls are processed in compliance with Institute policy, federal/state labor and tax regulations. After each pay cycle, reviews timesheets, retro payments, any exceptions processed, direct deposit file, and tax deposits. Reviews and approves processed payroll run before final completion. Reviews benefit vendor invoices on a monthly basis, and benefit adjustments based on Benefit PARs.

Prepares monthly payroll tax audit reports. Assists with the set up, withholding, and reporting of foreign national payroll; inputs data into nonresident software, reviews forms and reports. Supervises two employees; responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Payroll unit. Continuously assess processes, identifying areas for improvement and efficiencies.
